Wal-Mart Cutting More than Just Cost

Written By: Brenda (B.K.) Walker

Looks like Wal-Mart is doing more than just cutting back cost and rolling back prices. According to sources, Wal-Mart's "full-year sales growth forecast" isn't as strong as it had hoped it might be. Apparently, government cutbacks in food stamp programs has caused somewhat of a shortfall in sales. The company is now expecting an increase in sales of only 2-3 percent from last year's $473.1 billion. With lower income households holding the majority of the purchase power at Wal-Mart stores, fear of continuing proposed cut-backs in government entitlement programs and the Social Security program could cost Wal-Mart more than a few roll-backs. But maybe the company can save a few more billion dollars when it cuts its part-time employees' health care benefits program.
