Don has been designing jewelry for more than 40 years. He began making jewelry as a scrimshaw artist etching unique images and designing eclectic settings for the pieces. As his career evolved, he focused on designing jewelry exclusively in silver, gold, platinum, precious stones and diamonds. Don works from his retail gallery and studio, Pegasus Artisans, established in 1970 in historic New Bedford MA. His work is also sold in fine art galleries and shops from Maine to Key West, Florida and has a client base that spans the US and Europe.
Don's was educated at UMass Dartmouth in the Metals and Fine Arts Program. He continued his jewelry studies as a journeyman working in shops from Boston to Florida, and studying under expert jewelry craftsman. He also was an instructor of jewelry making at the Jewelry Institute sponsored by the Manufacturing Jewelers and Silversmiths of America (MJSA) in Providence, RI. He collaborated as Master Jeweler for an International Jewelry Manufacturer in Johnston RI. Don was part of a design team that developed the original French crystal and 18 karat gold "White Diamond" perfume bottle created for the "Elizabeth Taylor Collection." Each perfume bottle was studded with 36 carats of diamonds. Pegasus studio and gallery is located in the seaside community of New Bedford, and is housed in a historic Victorian home (circa 1870) at 27 Seventh Street, NB, MA. Pegasus specializes in custom design including, restyling, wedding, engagement, anniversary rings as well as highly crafted jewelry creations in gold, platinum, sterling, precious stones and diamonds. Jewelry designed at Pegasus range from modern and innovative to classic and figurative/organic expressions in jewelry. The muses of nature, history, and fantasy play a role in inspiring ideas that are intricate and thoughtful transformations from metal to dynamic ornamental designs. Many Pegasus jewelry designs are a reflection of our coastal environs -bay, seashore and realms of the ocean. Pegasus offers high quality and impeccable craftsmanship in every jewelry piece.
